God must really want to form some kind of epic sports team. Ali, Kimbo Slice, now Howe. Maybe a heavenly fight club?

Bummed Ilitch missed out on being classy and naming the arena after him. Rip

Maybe he changes his mind now. Gordie Howe Memorial Area or just The Gordie has a certain ring to it.

RIP, one of the biggest legends in hockey.
I recall seeing a Red Wings game at home a few months back and he was in attendance. He did not look very good.

I think it would be awesome if they named the Arena for him, maybe the rink, and at a minimum I’d like to see them name the penalty box after him.

I'm American and have never watched more than 5 consecutive minutes of hockey in my life, and I still know this guy is an insanely talented legend and will be missed. He really transcends his sport.

I met him (for the first time) in 1994 at a Kalamazoo Wings game. He always made time for the MI hockey community and carried an air of class and love of the game into every room he walked into. It was an aura that was unique to when he or Ted Lindsay came around.
Thanks Mr. Hockey.

Like I told my girlfriend, if you know just one person from hockey, it’s probably Wayne Gretzky. But if you know any more, you can bet Gordie Howe is high on the list.
I’m just glad that he lived a full life. I still remember when I was 8 and found out about Dan Snyder’s death. (For those who don’t know/remember, he was the passenger in teammate Dany Heatley’s Ferrari when they (read: Heatley) lost control and split the car in two around a brick pillar. He was only 25) I have a washcloth I got for free earlier that season with Heatley’s name and number on it, and I only keep it because it’s hard to come by Thrashers memorabilia. Really, he and everyone else who drives like that and kills someone can go to hell for all I care.
Sorry for the tangent. I guess my point is this dude was ready to go, and I’m glad he made it as far as he did.
